Avatar: The Way of Water's official trailer

 Avatar: The Way of Water's extended trailer was released by James Cameron.

A two and a half minute video for James Cameron's next Avatar sequel, The Way of Water, was posted online on Wednesday. It contains brand-new footage.

The sequel to James Cameron's 2009 sci-fi blockbuster Avatar, which is still the highest-grossing movie of all time, is titled Avatar: The Way of Water. It is more than a decade after Avatar and features Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Sigourney Weaver. It "tells the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their children), the peril that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the fights they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure," according to the official synopsis.

Weaver stated in September that "it's based on Jim's family and his joy in the family; as well as how vulnerable you are when you have children."

The Way of Water began filming in 2017, and a third installment in the series, slated for release in 2024, was developed and shot over a long period of time by director James Cameron. A fourth and fifth movies by Cameron are also under production, with expected premiere dates of 2026 and 2028, respectively. Cameron has spent a lot of time and energy creating filmmaking equipment that enables underwater performance capture. In May, the movie's debut trailer was released.
